New Year New Decade!

2020 is finally here! Not only is it a new year, but it is also a new decade! As always, a new year brings about a desire for change in the lives of many people. Many of us will start a new workout plan, seek out new employment opportunities, or increase our involvement in our churches or communities. It is no secret that many people make resolutions with joy and expectancy but lose heart by February because they see no fruit.  The concept that hinders us from pushing forward is the lack of consistency.

Starting is always difficult but continuing to do something that is out of our comfort zone is the real test of determination. However, before diving headfirst into working towards a new resolution, we encourage you to find your “why”– a strong motivating factor behind your new year resolutions. Ask yourself: Is it hurting your health? Is it hindering your spiritual growth?  Is it keeping you unhappy and stagnant in life? Think of a plan of action, write down, and make it plain [Habakkuk 2:2]. Envision yourself making all of your desired changes and walking boldly in them. While many of us get discouraged as soon as we don’t see our desired results, the Word of God reminds us of the fruit of being consistent.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” [Galatians 6:9]

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” [1 Corinthians 15:58]

Practical tips to increase your consistency.

Staying consistent can be difficult. However, by taking one step at a time, God will renew your mind, and you’ll see progress in your life. Below is a list of practical tips that may help you be more consistent as you embark on your journey this New Year!

Growing in community.

Finding a community is a critical part of the Christian walk. Not only do you get a chance to be planted in a community, but you also get the opportunity to serve in a place where you will be loved and supported. Through service, you’ll also discover your gifts and talents needed to grow the body of Christ. The GO Church welcomes you to come and sit with us because we love you already.  The GO Church also offers Growth Track which is a four-step guide that will help you live the life that God created for you. After completing Growth Track, we provide you with the opportunity to stay plugged in and serve. We have established Dream Teams, but we also have several Small Groups that you can join. Not only that, you can create a small group. Whether you want to bring people together to make a dessert or go hiking, Yep! We welcome those, too.  Additionally, if you want to improve your leadership skills, The GO Church is starting a Leadership Academy, this MONTH. The Leadership Academy is a great opportunity to invest in yourself and cultivate your gifts and talents.

Reaching your health goals.

It’s the beginning of the year! Surely, everyone is making plans to be more active with the hopes of reaching specific health and wellness goals. However, we all know that it’s a matter of time before the majority of people revert to couch-sitting as their form of exercise.  A study estimated that about 43% of people who set fitness goals will give up on them within the first month.  Nevertheless, we know that you will be part of the group of people who remain consistent! This year 2020 is your year of consistency! We are confident that you will develop a strong motivation for improving your health, set health goals, find accountability partners, and reach your health goals.

There are many resources available to support you on your health journey. Health professionals map out several steps that you can take: having a strong motivation, setting goals, and celebrating your successes are repeated across many health and exercise blogs. Find the steps that work best for you and go for it!  Additionally, in the age of technology, fitness apps make it easier for you to exercise within the comfort of your home. Not only that most of them are FREE or have a free version. Did someone say, “FREE?” Yep!

However, you can even go the extra mile and get others to join you. Whether you want to start a Small Group at the GO Church or put a group together, don’t do it alone!

Reaching your financial goals.

There are thousands of resources to help with financial literacy and budget management. However, one thing that people largely ignore is their perception of money. The pursuit of money should never stand in the way of us being obedient to God prevent us from being generous. Money like other inanimate items are tools to be used to bring honor to God. If you have found yourself in a cycle of financial hardship and money chasing you can look to the Word to see a healthy perception of money, then apply it to your life. Being a good steward of your finances is one of the ways to please God.

“Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” [1 Timothy 6: 17-19]

Moreover, information is limitless. There are many available resources, guides, and templates to help you manage your finances with setting and tracking your budget being two of the most important steps. As the year progresses, it is important that you consistently check and renew your perception of money to align with God’s vision. Additionally, it is critical to take advantage of available resources to reach your financial goals.

Consistency is a concept that everyone struggles with. However, taking steps to improve your consistency in growing in your community, reaching your health and financial goals will help catalyze greater consistency in different areas of your life.

We are certain that 2020 is your year of consistency, and we know that you’re going to give it 100% of all that you got.

We pray that you will walk in the fullness of God’s will in 2020!
